Job Title: Bookkeeping Specialist

Job Summary

Queerconomy is seeking a part time (5-10 hours per week) Bookkeeping Specialist to provide full-service accounting and bookkeeping support to its wide variety of clients. This is a remote position with the option to operate out of a shared co-working space. The Bookkeeping Specialist will report to the business owner but will take direction from numerous clients and must be successful with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions

This is not a complete description, duties may be changed during the course of employment.

  • Enter daily, weekly, or monthly sales totals into clients’ digital accounting software.

  • Record bank deposits, post transactions, and accurately categorize all income and expenses in clients’ digital accounting software.

  • Provide full service Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable support to client.

  • Provide full service Payroll Processing to clients.

  • Balance and maintain accurate ledgers; review, reconcile, and close clients’ books monthly.

  • Maintain organized and streamlined accounting systems. Develop new systems, policies, and procedures as needed to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Maintain orderly accounting filing systems. 

  • Ensure clients are in compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements; study requirements; enforce adherence to requirements; advise management on needed actions.

  • Prepare clients’ books for taxes; calculate and prepare tax payments when necessary.

  • Track and maintain inventory records when applicable.

  • Assist with budget preparation and manage clients’ cash flow when necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience:

  • Identifying errors and resolving problems;

  • Being highly effective with minimal supervision;

  • Clearly and effectively communicating complex financial matters in layman's terms;

  • Adhering to established policies and procedures;

  • Maintaining confidentiality.



The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

  • At least one (1) year professional experience in the bookkeeping, accounting, or financial field. 

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with Quickbooks Online required. Familiarity with other bookkeeping software preferred. 

  • Some formal education in accounting/bookkeeping preferred but not necessary with sufficient work experience.
